Selecting the Right Size Unit

Choosing the right size storage unit is important, and South Sioux Self Storage is available to make it easier for you.

Review our three steps to find the right size unit to best fit your needs.

Step One: Make a list. List the items you are going to store include items that may will not be packed in a box.

Step Two: Estimate the number of boxes that you will store.

Step Three: Use our list below to gather a rough idea the amount of stuff that will fit into each size unit.

10x10 - A 10x10 storage unit is the size of half of a standard one-car garage. It fits the contents of an entire family room or two full bedrooms, including several small to medium boxes.

10x20 - A 10x20 storage unit is the size of a standard one-car garage. It fits the contents of a multi-bedroom house, including several over sized items like a couch, a refrigerator, a washer/dryer and a dining rooms set or several large boxes. Also a perfect fit for the extra vehicle you are looking to get out of your driveway.

10x30 - A 10x30 storage unit is as large as a 1 1/2 car garage. It fits Contents of a fully furnished 3-5 bedroom house, including over sized items such as couches, beds, dressers, a refrigerator, a washer/dryer, a dining room set, an entertainment center and several large boxes. Also a good option for those looking to store a vehicle and several boxes

12x40 - A 12x40 storage unit is the same square footage as a two-car garage. It fits the contents of  a 5 plus bedroom house  including several over sized items like a couch, a refrigerator, a washer/dryer and a dining rooms set or several large boxes. It will also fit large motor house, multiple vehicles, or other recreational vehicles.

Some Contents Not Suitable for Storage Units

Combustible, Flammable, Hazardous or Toxic Materials
-Considered dangerous,  these include gasoline, compressed gas, propane tanks, kerosene, lamp and motor oil, acid, grease, corrosives, fertilizer, paint, cleaners, chemicals, narcotics, or hazardous, toxic or biological waste. Asbestos or products containing asbestos are not allowed. You also can not store fireworks or explosives.

Tires and Vehicles
-Storing vehicles is generally acceptable, as long as they are registered, insured and in general operational condition. Most facilities will not let you store more than four tires in your self-storage unit because of the cost to dispose of them.

Perishable Food and Animal Products
-Canned foods may be stored but avoid storing perishable food products such as pet food, produce, or meats. These may spoil or attract pest.

Home Owners/Renters Insurance
-Most Home Owners and Renters Insurance may cover you belongings when they are in a storage unit. But it is always best to call your agent or insurance company to speak to them regarding your belongings in storage. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your belongings.

Maximize Your Storage

Tips helping maximize your storage.

Organize - Don't be in a rush when you are packing your belongings before you move to place them in storage. Take a little extra time organizing when you and label as much as possible keeping similar items together or sorting my "room". This will help you know what is in your unit with a quick glance. 

Large Items - Consider packing large or heavy items along with awkwardly shaped items that might not fit into a moving box. You maybe able to stack lighter boxed items on these to help maximize the verticle space in your storage unit.
